Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

Students at Jockvale are encouraged to develop leadership skills in a number of ways. Junior students help the kindergarten students in the morning and after school and assist as helpers in classrooms during lunch breaks. Students participate in charitable activities. Each year we hold food drives for the local Barrhaven Food Bank and participate in the Snowsuit Fund and Mitten Drive. Last year, we donate money every year to the Terry Fox Foundation. The entire school participated in a Walkathon for CHEO and raised over $4,500.00 for the Hospital.

Students are encouraged to participate in cross country and track and field where they have performed well. Intramural sports (soccer, basketball, volleyball and bordenball) are popular cooperative activities. Jockvale Elementary school hosted two inter-school basketball and volleyball tournaments with over 16 schools attending.

Our students show leadership in academics, athletics, and citizenship. We acknowledge student achievement in our classrooms, school announcements, newsletters, assemblies, and end-of-year awards ceremonies

Staff

Our staff members have a wealth of professional qualifications including Bachelors and Masters degrees, Specialists in Special Education, Reading, Physical Education and Computers. Our staff continually participates in our Board-wide professional development activities in literacy and numeracy.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Last year, volunteers contributed time and support to benefit students in our school. Our dedicated School Council meets monthly and contributes in many ways to our school’s direction. As invaluable partners, we thank our parents, guardians and volunteers on an ongoing basis, and look for opportunities to acknowledge them in such ways as school announcements, our principal’s report to school council, school newsletters, and our annual volunteer appreciation event.

Community

The school takes every opportunity to give back to the community through activities and charitable donations, including the Terry Fox Walk, the Snowsuit Fund, our annual holiday food drive, Pass the Baton for Parkinsons disease, Toonie Tuesday (Education Foundation), Philippines Relief Fund, and a Walkathon for CHEO.
