Welcome to Jockvale Elementary School!
Welcome to Jockvale E.S. located in Barrhaven. We are a dual track school offering an English program and an Early French Immersion program to students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Jockvale is the home away from home for approximately 400 students and nearly 50 staff members. We are proud members of the OCDSB’s Community of Character. Additionally, we strive to ensure that our motto “Jockvale…Where We Belong” truly speaks to the environment we want to create for every member of the Jockvale community.
Jockvale is located on a beautiful parcel of land with plenty of space for our students to enjoy outdoor play at recess, during Phys Ed classes and for school-wide events. We have access to a forest where outdoor education and nature walks bring the curriculum to life. We are in walking distance to the Ottawa Public Library, the swimming pool and ice rink at Walter Baker which enhance our opportunities to be engaged, healthy and active. We also have a great partnership with the students at John McCrae S.S., many of whom are Jockvale alumni who return to assist as co-op students and serve as WITS/LEADS leaders for our junior students.
Our very dedicated school team and a dedicated School Council offers a rich academic program, as well as a variety of extracurricular activities in athletics and the arts. As we help our students as 21st century learners, we strive to embed skills and characteristics from our Exit Outcomes across all curricular areas. Our students are encouraged to set high standards for themselves, develop positive work habits and become responsible and respectful members of a global community.
Our School Learning Plan is developed annually. School priorities are well-being, fostering equity and inclusivity, making all members of the Jaguar community feel ‘visible’, promoting a Growth Mindset, Digital Citizenship and furthering our use of STEM and Coding activities. We embrace technology and our school staff offer students opportunities to integrate technological skills into their daily work.
Jockvale is fortunate to have an active parent community who is always there to support student learning and school activities. Parent and community volunteers assist with field trips, are members of our School Council, assist with fundraising, and always work collaboratively with teachers and school staff.
